(Bancroft, Ontario) – On Monday the 08th of September 2014, the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received the report of a fraud complaint from a Bancroft area resident. Investigation revealed that a male suspect posing as a bank security officer called the victim and asked them to help catch a dishonest bank employee. In this incident, the fraudster posed as an employee with the name of a local Bancroft area bank and asked the victim several questions about their banking. The victim was asked to meet him and provide him with $4800 cash to help catch the employee. Unfortunately in this case the victim met the fraudster and gave him the cash.
The Bancroft OPP reminds the public that no financial institution will ever ask a customer to deal with a dishonest employee or ask a customer to meet them with cash.
