(Smiths Falls, ON) – After a few beautiful fall weeks weather wise, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are encouraging everyone to concentrate on their driving each and every time they get into the driver’s seat of a vehicle. The leaves have started to change and Thanksgiving weekend is just around the corner. Both of these events bring with them an increase in road traffic as people venture out to admire the beautiful fall scenery and travel to visit with friends and family on the holiday.
Unfortunately, too many drivers continue to multitask while driving, by using hand held devices, reading, eating, or with some other distraction. Safe driving requires your full undivided attention at all times. In October of 2012 OPP officers in East Region investigated seven fatal collisions. We must all do our part to ensure we are giving due care and attention to the serious task of driving.
A few suggestions to make your trip safer:
Put down the phone, and other hand held devices
Take a break while eating or drinking
Pull over if something in the vehicle requires your attention
Buckle up and drive sober
All drivers need to help make our roads safer and avoid distractions while driving. Help by doing your part to ensure we all arrive alive. Just Drive!
