On May 7, 2016 just after 7 p.m. members of Central Hastings O.P.P were dispatched to a collision involving an all-terrain vehicle rollover on Moneymore Road in the Municipality of Tweed. A 46 year old man of Tweed, ON was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
The investigation is continuing.
Central Hastings O.P.P urge caution when riding all-terrain vehicles and to follow rules:
All riders – including drivers and passengers of all ages – wear an approved motorcycle helmet and use a seatbelt or foot rests, where applicable
Children under the age of eight are not allowed as a passenger on any ATV/ORV operating on-road
Roadway speed limit is 50 KM/Hr or less – The speed limit for ATV’s is 20 KM/Hr
Roadway speed limit is over 50 KM/HR – The speed limit for ATV’s is 50 KM/Hr
Head lights and tail lights must be on at all times.
The operator must follow all the rules of the road, such as signaling all movements
TRAFFIC COMPLAINT LEADS TO CHARGES
(Hwy# 7, Tweed) – On May 6, 2016 at 3:30 p.m. members of Central Hastings O.P.P were dispatched to a traffic complaint involving a westbound vehicle on Highway# 7 near Varty Road in the Municipality of Tweed passing unsafely, driving aggressively and almost causing two collisions.
Officers stopped the vehicle in Madoc and the 20 year old male driver of Ottawa, ON was subsequently charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
MAN ARRESTED PUBLIC INTOXICATION
(Madoc, ON) – On May 7, 2016 just after midnight an intoxicated male jumped out in front of a police cruiser as it was driving on St. Lawrence Street West in the Village of Madoc. The male began yelling and screaming at the officer.
As a result the 24 year old Madoc, ON man was arrested and charged for Being Intoxicated in a Public Place. He was held in custody until sober.
STUNT DRIVERS CHARGED
(Centre Hastings, ON) – On May 5, 2016 just after 10 a.m. members of Central Hastings O.P.P stopped a motorcycle for speeding on Moira Road near Phillipston Road in the Municipality of Centre Hastings. The motorcycle was travelling 110 kilometres per hour in a posted 50 kilometre residential zone.
As a result, the 31 year old male driver of Tweed, ON was charged with Operate a Motor Vehicle While Performing a Stunt – Speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
On May 6, 2016 at 7:20 p.m. members of Central Hastings O.P.P stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway # 7 near Jarvis Road in Madoc Township. The car was travelling 169 kilometres per hour in a posted 80 kilometre zone. The driver also turned off the highway on to Jarvis Road at a high rate of speed and continued to travel on various side roads in an unsafe manner before stopping for police.
As a result, the 56 year old male driver of Madoc, ON was charged with Operate a Motor Vehicle While Performing a Stunt – Speeding and Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
In each occurrence the drivers had their licences seized and vehicles impounded, both for a period of seven days.
STICKER THEFT
(Tweed, ON) – On May 5, 2016 members of Central Hastings O.P.P received a complaint after 1000 stickers were stolen from a grocery store on Victoria Street and put on vehicles and houses throughout the Village of Tweed. The stickers are printed for sale or reduced items and are quite troublesome to remove.
