Arena Damaged By Fireworks

(WALKERTON, ON) – On November 26th, 2010 at 8:53 pm, the South Bruce OPP received a call to a mischief at the Walkerton arena. A group of youths were playing with Roman candle fireworks at the side of the arena and some fireworks entered an arena exhaust vent. The fire department was called to the scene as flames scorched the inside of the exhaust vent. The cost of the damage is estimated to be $300. The Canada Safety Council reports that no one under 18 years of age should be handling fireworks. Parents and caregivers are asked to discuss, with their youth, the risk of injury or property damage that can be caused by fireworks.
