(BLUEWATER, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers, members from the West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) & a Canine Unit have just completed a search of a bush area near Bannockburn Line and Centennial Road for a male on the run.
The chase started earlier this afternoon in Perth County when an officer attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle in the Town of Mitchell. The driver of a full size U-Haul truck failed to stop for the officer and immediately proceeded to head westbound on Highway 8 at a high rate of speed. Police received multiple complaints about the driver’s dangerous driving as he was observed by witnesses forcing vehicles off the road and failing to stop for stop signs.
The U-Haul pickup truck continued westbound into Huron County where it was later spotted by a Huron OPP officer travelling southbound on Division Line from Front Road.
The driver of the truck eventually got the U-Haul stuck at the end of Bannockburn Line between Centennial Road and Staffa Road.
The young, male driver fled on foot from the truck heading southbound from Bannockburn Line.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian male in his mid-20’s, about 5’5 to 5’6” tall. He has dark hair that is described as scruffy. He was last seen wearing a blue baseball cap and a white t-shirt.
Huron OPP is asking residents and anyone travelling in and around the area of Bannockburn Line and Centennial Road to report any suspicious activity, suspicious persons or hitchhikers that meet this description.
As always, homeowners are recommended to secure their property and vehicles. Lock your vehicles when they are unattended and always pocket the ignition key. Valuables should never be left in plain view and vehicles should be parked in well-lit areas whenever possible.
