ALCOHOL AND VEHICLES NEVER MIX

(Georgian Bay Township)- Since alcohol and motor vehicles never mix, Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have been caused to investigate a number of detachment area alcohol related incidents. During the period of November 22, 2013 to January 2, 2014 the following drinking and driving related incidents were investigated.

On November 25, 2013 shortly before 4:00pm a Dodge pickup truck was located at a home on Gratrix Road in Tay Township after the male driver became the subject of a possible impaired driving tip called into the OPP Communications Centre in Orillia. The driver was found to be operating the pickup truck and the investigation concluded with Kirk GRATRIX, 35 years of Tay Township being charged with Impaired Driving section 253 (1) (a) and Over 80 mgs section 253 (1) (b) contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
At 7:11pm on November 29, 2013 Officers and Simcoe County Paramedics attended a two vehicle head on personal injury crash on Champlain Road in Tiny Township which resulted after investigation Robert FOURNIER, 75 years of Tiny Township being charged with Impaired Driving section 253 (1) (a) and Over 80mgs section 253 (1) (b) contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

December 1, 2013 at 12:23am, Officers were dispatched to a single vehicle crash on Balm Beach Road in Tiny Township as a result of a call to police from a passing motorist. The resulting drinking and driving investigation resulted in Ljubic NIKOLIC 57 years of Mississauga being charged with Failure to Provide a Breath Sample contrary to section 254(5) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

On the afternoon of December 2, 2013 at 2:58pm an officer on patrol stopped a pickup truck on Gratrix Road in Tay Township for a traffic related offence. The officer commenced a drinking and driving investigation after speaking to the male driver. As a result of that investigation Shawn MAXWELL, 30 years of age from Tay Township being charged with Impaired Driving section 253 (a) and Over 80 Milligrams section 253 (1) (b) contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

December 19, 2013 at 12:34am Officers on their way to a call for service noted a vehicle in the ditch on Tiny Beaches Road North in Tiny Township. Officers upon speaking with the driver entered into a drinking and driving investigation which concluded with Christopher RIDLER 40 years of age from Midland being charged with Impaired Driving section 253(1) (a) and Over 80 Milligrams section 253(1) (b) contrary to the Criminal code of Canada.

At 5:14pm Officers along with Simcoe County Paramedic Services responded to a phone call from a passerby of a male snowmobile operator in distress on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club (OFSC) trail near Old Fort Road in Tay Township. A drinking and driving investigation was commenced which resulted in Michael EDEN 29 years of age from Midland being charged with Impaired Driving section 253 (1) (a) and refusing to Provide a Breath Sample section 254 (5) contrary to the Criminal code of Canada.

All of these drivers had their vehicles impounded for 7 days with impound and towing fees attached, a 90 day suspension of their drivers licence under the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) program and a court date before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland following their incident.
