(THUNDER BAY, ON) On November 1, 2016, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information from Norfolk County OPP of an 11 year old missing female from Norfolk County that may be in the Thunder Bay area.
Information was received advising that the female may be on a west bound Greyhound bus in the company of an identified male and may be arriving at the Thunder Bay bus terminal.
Officers located the Greyhound bus on Highway 11/17 near Fraser Road in the Municipality of Oliver Paipoonge and conducted a traffic stop.
Subsequently, officers located and arrested Brandon LABONTE, 22 years of age, from Norfolk County. He was arrested for Abduction of a Child Under 14 Years Old, as well as Breach of Probation Order. He was transported to Norfolk County to answer to the charges.
The female was taken into protective custody of the Children’s Aid Society (CAS) until being able to be transported to Norfolk County to reunite with her family.
Norfolk County OPP is continuing the investigation.
