(PERTH COUNTY, ON) Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers worked hard throughout the “Canada Day Long Weekend†trying to keep our roadways safe.
From Friday morning June 27th, until midnight July 1st officers increased their patrols and visibility significantly on Perth County Roads. Every available officer was engaged in traffic enforcement and Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) programs.
Nine RIDE programs were conducted throughout the County, with officers checking large numbers of drivers for sobriety.
The Perth County OPP numbers indicate the following;
94 motorists were issued speeding tickets
2 racing charges (50 km/h over)
13 seatbelt charges
12 motorists received a ticket for distracted driving
9 for moving violations
23 other Highway Traffic Act tickets were issued
6 Liquor licence act tickets were handed out
3 charges of impaired or over 80mg/of alcohol
2 drug charges

In addition to the normal long weekend increase in calls for service, they concentrated on locations where traffic enforcement had the greatest impact.
