$90,000 Grow Op Bust

(Adolphustown, ON) – On Friday, February 19, 2016 officers with the Napanee detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to attend and assist the Greater Napanee Fire Service at the scene of a residential fire on Highway 33 near Adolphustown.

While conducting a check of the property a member with the Fire Service discovered an indoor marihuana growing operation inside the garage.

The Fire Service was able to contain the fire which caused extensive damage to the home. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.

Officers with the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau-Drug Enforcement Unit (OCEB-DEU) were called to investigate and subsequently executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrant at the property.

As a result of the search, an elaborate indoor marihuana growing operation was dismantled. 64 mature marihuana plants were seized from the garage and 98 clones were removed from within the residence. 13 kilograms of marihuana shake was also seized. The estimated street value of the seizure is over $90,000.

Facing charges of two counts of production of a controlled substance and one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking is

46 year-old Shawn WAFER of Adolphustown.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
