6 More Impaired Drivers Busted

(NORTH BAY, ON) – In the past seven days the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged six people for impaired driving.

On November 13, 2015, around noon, members of the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a two vehicle collision on Highway 11, City of North Bay.

After further investigation, police arrested and charged the driver of one of the vehicles, Joshua YOKUBOWSKI, age 29 of North Bay, Ontario with;

· Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood, section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)CC;

· Careless driving, section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act(HTA);

· Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero, section 44.1(3) HTA.

He was released from custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay, Ontario, on November 24, 2015.

On November 14, 2015, at approximately 3 a.m., a member of the Powassan OPP was on patrol on Highway 11 when he stopped a south bound vehicle for speeding in the Municipality of Powassan.

After further investigations the driver, Jonathan KOEBEL, age 23 of Powassan, Ontario was arrested and charged with;

Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood, section 253(1(b) of the CC;

Speeding, section 128 of the HTA.

He was released from custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay, Ontario, on December 22, 2015.

On November 14, 2015, at approximately 3 p.m., North Bay OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 11, City of North Bay.

Police located the vehicle in question parked in a parking lot on the side of the highway. Police spoke to the driver and after further investigation the driver, Branden BOECKMAN, age 36, of Woodville, Ontario was arrested and charged with;

· Driving While Ability Impaired – motor vehicle (drug), section 253(1)(a) of the CC;

· Care or Control While Impaired (Alcohol), section 253(1)(a) of the CC;

· Care or Control Over 80 mgs., section 253(1)(b) of the CC.

He was released from custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay, Ontario, on December 1, 2015.

On November 16, at approximately 10:40 a.m., a concerned citizen contacted police of a possible impaired driver who entered an establishment in Port Loring, Ontario.

Powassan OPP attended the scene and upon further investigation arrested and charged the driver, Andrew BENNS, age 33 of New Tecumseth, Ontario with;

· Driving While Ability Impaired- motor vehicle (Alcohol), section 253(1)(a) of the CC;

· Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood, section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC);

· Fail to Comply with Recognizance, section 145(3) of the CC;

· Fail to Comply with Probation Order, section 733.1(1) of the CC.

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the North Bay Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on November 17, 2015.

On November 18, 2015, at approximately 8:45 a.m., North Bay OPP received a report of a traffic complaint on Highway 94, Municipality of East Ferris.

Police located the vehicle in question and upon further investigation the driver of the vehicle, Edyta GADOMSKI, age 41, of Bonfield, Ontario, was arrested and charged with;

Driving While Ability Impaired- Motor Vehicle (Alcohol), section 253(1)(a) of the CC;

Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood, section 253(1)(b).

She was released from custody and is to appear at the North Bay Ontario Court of Justice on November 24, 2015.

On November 19, 2015, at approximately 3 a.m., North Bay OPP responded to a report of a vehicle hitting a fully marked police cruiser on Highway 17, City of North Bay, Ontario.

Upon further investigation the driver of the vehicle causing the collision was arrested and charged.

Dean JACKSON, age 34, of North Bay, Ontario was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired – motor vehicle (Drug), section 253(1)(a) of the CC.

He was released from custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay, Ontario, on December 15, 2015.

The OPP is concerned that the message is not getting across to drivers about drinking and driving.

Here are some facts to consider when you make the decision to drink and drive. When you are charged with impaired, your driver’s licence is suspended for 90 days and your vehicle is towed and impounded for seven days immediately.

If you are convicted

You will receive a fine of not less than $1000

A minimum one year driver’s licence suspension

Ignition interlock condition on your licence

You will have to take the Back on Track Program at the Ministry of Transportation

Your insurance will increase

You will have a criminal record.

If you plan on going out drinking, plan ahead. Some of the options are to arrange for a cab, don’t take your vehicle so that the choice to drive is not there, contact friends or family for a ride home.
