(MIDDLESEX COUNTY, ON) On Wednesday September 4, 2013 at 10:45 a.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), London Fire Department (LFD) and Middlesex-London Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a tractor trailer rollover on the eastbound off ramp of Highway 401 at Veteran Memorial Parkway, Middlesex County.
Police learned that a lone tractor trailer struck the guard rail causing the truck and its trailer to roll on its side down the embankment, spilling over 44,000 lbs. of sugar.
The eastbound off ramp was closed for approximately seven hours as crews worked to remove the vehicle and its contents. The driver sustained minor injuries.
As a result of an investigation police have charged the driver Malkeet BRAR, age 27 of Winnipeg, MB with Careless Driving as per Section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act. The driver was issued a Provincial Offences Notice (PON) and released at the scene without incident.
Members of the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) will be on the scene throughout the day conducting repairs to the damaged guard rail. Police are asking the public to travel slowly through the area to ensure the safety of all members working at the scene.
