(ST.MARYS, ON) On Sunday June 23, 2013, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a residence on Wellington St. North, where a homeowner doing yard work, located a hockey bag underneath bushes on his property.
Police investigation revealed that the bag contained pre-packaged pills obtained from an internet based retailer / wholesaler. The packages contained a variety of pill names including; Rush, Rush 2, Spun, Buzz, Edge, Flow, Flip, and Tweq. The pills all contain an active ingredient called BZP which mimics the effect of Ecstacy and Crystal Meth. These pills are marketed as a safer alternative to street drugs, but they are NOT SAFE and NOT LEGAL. Effects associated with the use of BZP include increased blood pressure, slowed breathing, hallucinations and seizures.
BZP (Benzylpiperazine) is included in Schedule III of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and as such the following activities with this substance is prohibited; possession, trafficking, possession for the purpose of trafficking, importation, exportation, possession for the purpose of exportation, and production.
The estimated street value of the contents of the hockey bag is between $25,000., and $30,000.
The Perth County OPP is continuing their investigation into this incident and they would appreciate hearing from anyone who may have seen someone on Wellington St. North during the early hours of Sunday June 23rd, carrying a large hockey bag.
