25 Year Old Driver Arrested After Pointing Firearm At Vehicle

(PORT HOPE, ON) -On April 29, 2018 at 4:37 p.m. the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an erratic driver in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 in Cramahe Township. Witnesses reported a purple coloured 2-door sedan weaving in and out of traffic cutting off other motorists and at one point; the driver was reported to have pointed a handgun at another vehicle.

The vehicle was located still traveling westbound in the Port Hope area near the Wesleyville exit where a high risk traffic stop was initiated with the assistance of Whitby OPP and the Port Hope Police Service. The two occupants of the car were arrested without incident and a handgun-style pellet gun was located in the vehicle.

After investigation, the 33 year old female passenger from Kitchener, Ontario was released without charges. The driver, Troy BLACKER-ROACH age 25 also from Kitchener, Ontario is charged with the following offences:

Pointing a Firearm

Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

Assault with a Weapon

Careless Driving and Driving While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice Cobourg on June 6, 2018.

The vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days and no-one was injured as a result of what could best be described as a ‘road rage’ incident.
