23 Year Old Drunk Driver Crashes In Goderich – Name Released

(GODERICH, ON) – A trip down to the beach didn’t go so well for a driver from Central Huron this past weekend. Just after 10:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers and paramedics from Huron County Paramedics Services responded to a single motor collision on Cove Road.

The subsequent investigation revealed the male driver was travelling northbound on Cove Road when he lost control of his Toyota Corolla and drove into one of the concrete pillars that supports the Rotary Cove archway.

The Corolla was heavily damaged and the driver sustained minor injuries from the crash. While speaking with the driver the investigating officer noted the driver had been drinking some alcohol so a roadside screening test was administered. The driver produced a sample of his breath into the roadside device and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron County OPP detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.

Jonathan ATKINSON, 23 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for November 20, 2017 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

He received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was towed and impounded.
