(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A 21 year old driver from West Perth is facing an Over 80 charge following a traffic stop early this morning. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received information from Lambton County OPP officers about a possible impaired driver that may be travelling through Huron County en-route to a residence located in Perth County.
Huron OPP officers immediately began patrolling for the suspect vehicle, a Volkswagen Jetta. At approximately 12:18 a.m. a Huron OPP officer spotted the suspect vehicle travelling eastbound on Dashwood Road near Exeter. After confirming the Jetta was the suspect vehicle the officer completed a traffic stop.
While speaking with the driver the officer detected the odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath. A roadside screening test was performed and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both samples registered over the legal limit.
As a result, 21 year old Eric HUTTON from West Perth has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on July 3, 2015. He also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
