(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Norfolk County Detachment responded to an incident at an Erie Boulevard, Long Point, Norfolk County, Ontario, address.
On Saturday, August 13, 2016 at approximately 4:15 p.m., OPP, Norfolk County Fire Services, Paramedics and the Joint Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Trenton, Ontario responded to Lake Erie at the Long Point Provincial Park for a report of male that was overdue from the water.
Through the course of investigation it was determined that a 19-year-old male from Hamilton, Ontario, was swimming with two (2) other friends in Lake Erie in the outer bay when he went under the water and never resurfaced.
The Canadian Coast Guard along with their Hercules aircraft attended and assisted in searching for the male however due to poor weather conditions the search was suspended.
At approximately 7:15 p.m., two (2) males walking along the beach in Long Point Provincial Park located the male in the water and brought him back to shore. Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was attempted however was unsuccessful.
The coroner attended the scene and subsequently pronounced the male deceased.
Identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
