(TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, ON) – On May 17, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties in the Township of the North Shore, east of Blind River.
At 4:01 p.m., police were stationary on Highway 17 and observed an eastbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. As the vehicle passed the stationary cruiser, the officer observed one male occupant with four windows down in the vehicle.
A traffic stop was initiated. As a result of the investigation, Sault Ste. Marie OPP K-9 was called to assist East Algoma officers with a search of the vehicle. Officers located a large amount of currency in a vacuum sealed bag and over 175 grams of cocaine.
John S. CHONG, 50 years of age, from CALEDON, Ontario, was charged with:
Possession of Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking-Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs Substances Act;
Possession of Schedule 1 Substance – Cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs Substances Act; and
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000-in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice – Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie on May 19, 2016.
