16 Year Old From Huron East Ejected In Collision Suffers Life Threatening Injuries – 17 Year Old Drunk Driver From Clinton Arrested

(BLUEWATER, ON) – A 16-year-old male from Huron East remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a roll-over collision that took place early this morning northwest of Kippen.

Just before 2:00 a.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Huron County Paramedic Services were called to a single motor vehicle collision that took place on Staffa Road between Airport Line and Gulley Line.

Investigators have determined the driver of a 4-door sedan was travelling westbound on Staffa Road when he lost control of his vehicle. The out of control vehicle left the roadway on the south side of the road. The vehicle subsequently rolled and tumbled several times before it came to rest overturned in a grassy field well off the roadway.

The lone passenger, a 16-year-old male from Huron East was ejected from the vehicle. He remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The novice driver, a 17-year-old male from Clinton sustained minor injuries from the crash. He has been released from the hospital with minor injuries.

During the course of the investigation, police determined the driver had been drinking alcohol and his ability to drive a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

As a result of the investigation he is facing the following charges:

Causing Bodily Harm by Criminal Negligence

Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm

Young Driver – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) Above Zero

He has since been released from custody on a recognizance. He has a court date scheduled for the Ontario Youth Justice Court in Goderich on October 13, 2016.

Members from the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Team (TTCI) remain on scene investigating the crash.

Please Note: Staffa Road remains closed between Airport Line and Parr Line. The roadway is expected to be open by 1:00 p.m.
