15 Collisions In Two Hours

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment was kept busy responding to approximately 15 collisions on area roadways in Norfolk County, Ontario.

On Tuesday, December 2, 2014 between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., police responded to approximately 15 motor vehicle collisions which resulted in several vehicles entering the ditch and rolling over.

If there is a silver lining to any of these preventable crashes, it is that there have been no serious injuries or fatalities reported. This does not however diminish the demand that this puts on emergency services everywhere.

The common denominators in today’s crashes have been speed too fast for road and weather conditions. To drive according to the road conditions, motorists are reminded that posted speed limits apply to optimal road and weather conditions. If the weather or road conditions get worse, drivers simply need to slow down,” – Constable Ed Sanchuk, Norfolk County OPP.

The OPP are urging the motoring public to turn on their front and rear lights in their vehicles. Don’t assume your headlights are on, make sure of it and keep them on. Make yourself be seen. Far too many vehicles cannot be seen by the drivers behind them because their rear lights are not on. Using the full set of headlights is the only way to completely engage your rear lights and this is critical in helping to reduce the risk of collisions when driving in poor visibility. Leave lots of space between you and the other vehicle in front of you. Stay in control.

The OPP remind all citizens not to call the OPP Dispatch or any other Emergency Service Dispatch to get road and weather conditions. EMS dispatch must only be used to report emergencies or summons help for incidents.

Police, fire and ambulance crews respond to numerous motor vehicle collisions during adverse weather conditions putting themselves at extreme risk. Drivers are urged to obey the law. If they approach an emergency vehicle, they must slow down, proceed with caution and if a lane is available and it is safe to do so, they must move into that other lane.
