13 Distracted Driving Charges Laid In 6 Hour Crackdown In Listowel

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) Between 2 p.m. Friday August 08, 2014 and 1 p.m. Saturday August 09, 2014, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police Officers and members of the OPP West Region Highway Safety Division issued 14 tickets to motorists who deemed it necessary to operate their hand held electronic communication devices while driving.

On Friday between 2 and 8 p.m., thirteen motorists travelling through Listowel received $280 tickets for driving their motor vehicles while having communication devices in hand.

On Saturday August 09, 2014 around 1 p.m., a 34 year old male from Huron East felt the need to communicate on his hand held device while operating his farm tractor on Line 75 west of Atwood. Subsequent lack of attention to driving resulted in a minor collision between his tractor and a Jeep Wrangler. Fortunately the impact did not result in injuries to the 44 year old male driver from Huron East operating the Wrangler. The impact caused minor damage to the rear bumper of the Wrangler.

The operator of the farm tractor was charged with “drive motor vehicle on a highway while using a hand-held wireless communication device”.
