12 Year Old Runs Stop Sign In Front Of Police

12 YEAR OLD DRIVER CHARGED

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers have charged a 12 year old driver for Failing to stop for a stop sign, and for Unlawfully driving an off-road vehicle on a highway following a traffic stop on June 23, 2013.

At approximately 11:00 a.m. a Huron OPP officer observed the driver of a John Deere utility vehicle fail to stop for a stop sign located at the intersection of Summerhill Road and London Road. Officers determined the driver and passenger were both 12 years of age.

The driver, a 12 year old male from Central Huron was charged with the above offences under the Highway Traffic Act. He now has a court appearance scheduled for Provincial Offences Court Goderich.

Huron OPP would like to remind off road vehicle drivers and the parents of young drivers that it is mandatory to be at least 16 years of age and hold a valid class G2 or M2 licence or greater to drive an off-road vehicle on the highway. In addition, drivers are reminded to check with the municipality to confirm that ATVs are allowed on its roads, and if so, whether there are any restricted areas or rules they need to know about.
