12 Distracted Driving Charges

(Bancroft, Ontario) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted their annual Distracted Driving Campaign from Saturday March 14th to Friday March 20th. The Bancroft OPP detachment was visible on local roadways conducting both education and enforcement as part of the campaign.

The Bancroft OPP issued 12 charges in relation to hand held communication devices during the campaign.

Distracted driving continues to be a danger to all road users and OPP collision data reveals that driver inattention was a causal factor in 12 of this year’s 51 fatal collisions to date.

The Bancroft OPP wish to remind motorists that although the distracted driving campaign is completed, driver’s need to be aware of potential distractions in their vehicle and deal with them in a safe manner. This includes pulling onto the shoulder and stopping safely to take calls/texts.
