Wellington OPP Weekly Report

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) – Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On July 13, 2023, at approximately 12:30 a.m., an officer observed a motor vehicle traveling approximately 135 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone on Wellington Road 109. As a result of the investigation, a 20 year old of Wallenstein has been charged with stunt driving and speeding – 50+. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court on November 1, 2023. 

On July 13, 2023, at approximately 11:30 p.m. an officer observed a motor vehicle being operated in an erratic manner on Wellington Road 109. The officer conducted a traffic stop and as a result of the investigation, Nicholas BEYER, 34 years old of Minto has been charged with Impaired Operation and with Operation while Impaired -B.A.C. (80 Plus). The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on August 1, 2023.

On July 15, 2023, at approximately 2:00 p.m., an officer stopped a motor vehicle on Bridge Street East, Fergus. As a result of the investigation, a 25 year old of Owen Sound has been charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance and is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court on November 1, 2023. 

On July 15, 2023, at approximately 2:15 p.m., a 63 year old of Mount Forest was issued a three day license suspension by Wellington County OPP at a RIDE checkpoint on Sligo Road East, Wellington North Township. The driver was also issued a provincial offence notice for having liquor readily available. 

On July 15, 2023, at approximately 2:30 p.m., an officer stopped what appeared to be an e-bike pulling two trailers on Maiden Lane, Fergus. However, further inspection determined that the pedals had been rendered inoperable. As a result of the investigation, a 21 year old of New Hamburg has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – No plates, Drive Motor Vehicle – Improper license, Improper Means of Attachment, and with Operate Motor Vehicle without Insurance. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on November 1, 2023.   

On July 16, 2023, at approximately 10:00 a.m. the Wellington County OPP received a report of a motor vehicle being operated in an erratic manner on Highway 6, Puslinch Township. An officer located the vehicle and as a result of the investigation, Manlio Peter GIORGINI, 62 years old of Hamilton has been charged with Operation while Impaired. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on August 1, 2023. 

On July 16, 2023, at approximately 3:30 p.m. the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles on Broadway Street, Belwood. It was reported that a southbound motor vehicle had passed another vehicle at a high rate of speed, struck a vehicle that was turning on to a sideroad and then attempted to leave the scene of the accident. As a result of the investigation, a 36 year old of Wasaga Beach has been charged with Careless Driving and with Fail to Remain. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court on September 13, 2023. 

On July 18, 2023, at approximately 3:00 a.m. a vehicle entered a RIDE checkpoint that the Wellington County OPP were conducting on Main Street South, Mount Forest. Officers observed a quantity of cannabis in the vehicle within reach of the driver. A baton and a noxious substance suspected to be pepper spray were also located during the investigation. As a result of the investigation, Brandy Michelle MURRAY, 42 years old of Hillsburgh has been charged with Fail to Comply with Release Order (two counts), Operate Motor Vehicle without Insurance, and with Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on September 15, 2023.   

On July 19, 2023, at approximately 10:00 a.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a tractor trailer that had left the roadway and had struck a hydro pole along Sixth Line, Minto. The hydro pole and the cornfield sustained damage, but the driver of the transport was uninjured. As a result of the investigation, a 44 year old of Clinton was charged with Careless Driving and is scheduled to speak to the charge at the provincial offences court in Guelph on October 24, 2023.

On July 19, 2023, at approximately 10:30 a.m., an officer stopped a motor vehicle on Strathallan Street, Fergus. The officer administered a roadside Approved Screening Device test to the driver. As a result of the investigation, a 53 year old of Fergus has been charged with Novice Driver – BAC above zero and with Operate a Vehicle without Insurance. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on November 1, 2023. 

On July 19, 2023, at approximately 7:00 p.m., an officer located a vehicle that had been the subject of an earlier traffic complaint on St George Street East, Fergus. As a result of the investigation a 19 year old of Fergus was issued a provincial offence notice for Care of Control of Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor. 

On July 19, 2023, at approximately 10:00 p.m., the Wellington County OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Wellington Road 21, Pilkington when a vehicle whose driver showed signs of suspected impairment, entered the RIDE program. As a result of the investigation, Keith GORDANIER, 24 years old of Kitchener has been charged with Operation while Impaired -B.A.C. (80 Plus). The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on August 8, 2023.

*Anyone charged with Operation while Impaired- 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or Failing to Comply with Demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment as per statute.

*Anyone charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver’s licence suspension as per statute.
