Drunk Driver Assaults Police Officer

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – An impaired driver was arrested in North Perth, and later assaulted a police officer.

On December 07 2021, just after 5:00 p.m. the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in Listowel. Officers located the vehicle on Maitland Avenue North, Listowel, and determined the driver was impaired. They were arrested, and transported to a local operations centre for further testing, where they assaulted a police officer.

No serious injuries were reported as a result of the assault.

Kevin HAMILTON, 48, of North Perth, has been charged with:

–       Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

–       Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand

–       Assault a Peace Officer

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 30-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges. 

If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, call police at 911 to report it.
