Arrest After Fiery Crash – Name Released

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A resident of Seaforth remains in custody on a pile of driving related charges following an investigation conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) this past weekend.

On Friday, August 19, 2022 at approximately 10:40 p.m. Huron OPP officers responded to a collision that took place just east of Goderich on Highway 8. Upon arrival officers located a sedan that had caught fire after it collided with a shipping container parked off the highway. The driver was able to escape the fiery crash largely uninjured and he took off on foot. 

Officers also learned the driver of the sedan had veered into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle before it skidded off the roadway into the shipping container. Further, investigators learned that just minutes prior to this collision the driver caused another crash as the driver was attempting to pass another vehicle while travelling into Goderich.  

Officers quickly set up containment and began searching for the suspect driver. Shortly after Huron OPP officers located and arrested the accused. The accused was displaying signs of impairment so he was also arrested for Impaired Operation. He was later transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where he subsequently provided two samples of breath to the Intoxilizer Technician. Both tests were found to be over the legal limit. 

Upon further investigation officers learned the driver was currently prohibited from driving, as well, he was failing to operate a motor vehicle with insurance.

Christopher FERGUSON, 32 years of age from Seaforth has been charged with: Dangerous Operation, Operation While Impaired, Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), Operation While Prohibited, Fail to Report Accident – two counts, Fail to Remain – two counts, Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle and Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance. 

The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for today’s date at the Ontario Court of Justice -Goderich.
