(MALAHIDE, ON) – On the 30th of July 2017 around 8:50 a.m. the Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single vehicle roll over near Ron McNeil Line and Springwater Road.
The vehicle occupants then fled the scene of the collision. The OPP’s Canine Unit was called out with the assistance of the OPP’s Emergency Response team members. The two male parties involved were successfully tracked down and taken into police custody without incident around 9:50a.m.
As a result of the investigation to date the following charges have been laid against Nelson CORNEJO age 31 of Puslinch Ontario.
Take motor vehicle without consent contrary to section 335(1) of the Criminal Code.
Fail to comply with recognizance contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code.
Careless driving contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act
Fail to remain at scene of a collision contrary to section 200(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act
Driving while under suspension contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act X2
St. Thomas Elgin ambulance later attended and transported the males to hospital with minor injuries due to the rollover of the vehicle. The second male was released unconditionally after further investigation.
The accused was held for a bail hearing in St. Thomas Criminal Court on the 31st of July.
