(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On Saturday, November 9, 2013 at approximately 8:34 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of an assault that occurred at a Southgate Township residence following a family dispute and domestic.
The male occupant, who threatened to kill himself during the dispute, went outside and discharged his firearm several times into the air before returning inside and ordering his wife and adult daughter to leave the residence, which they immediately did.
The man text the victim stating he was prepared to be in a shootout with police.
The OPP West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the OPP West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) were called to assist.
At approximately 11:43 p.m. the man was arrested outside his residence by OPP ERT members without incident. The accused was taken to the Chatsworth OPP Detachment where he was held for a bail hearing.
There were no injuries reported.
The 66 year old accused was charged with several offences including, assault, careless use of a firearm, mischief under $5000, and two counts of uttering threats.
