BARRICADED MALE IN FRENCHMAN’S HEAD

(FRENCHMAN’S HEAD, LAC SEUL FIRST NATION) – On Sunday, December 1, 2013 at approximately 12:41am (Central Standard Time) Lac Seul Police Service was notified of a domestic dispute which had occurred at a residence in the community of Frenchman’s Head. Members of the Lac Seul Police Service attended and subsequently requested the assistance of the Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and North West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) members.

Members of the OPP Sioux Lookout Detachment, ERT members, crisis negotiators, as well as members of the Forensic Identification Unit and North West Region Crime Unit are all on scene in the community of Frenchman’s Head. The OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) are currently en route.

The twenty-eight year old male occupant has barricaded himself inside his residence and is not responding to police requests to exit the residence. Information received is that there are firearms in the residence.

The OPP have set up various roadblocks within the community and have evacuated nine residences to ensure the safety and security of the public. Members of the public are requested to refrain from attending the area for their own safety.

The investigation is continuing and further information will be released as it becomes available.
