FLEEING SUSPECT APPREHENDED

(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – A 23 year old Malahide woman is in custody after trying to evade police earlier this morning. The incident began just after 7am December 5, 2013 after the City of St. Thomas Police Service notified the Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to be on the lookout for a Chevrolet Venture Mini Van which had failed to stop.

At approximately 7:16am OPP observed the vehicle travelling east on Edgeware Line in the area of Belmont Rd, Central Elgin. Police attempted to stop the vehicle however the vehicle failed to stop and continued fleeing. Officers attempted to box the fleeing vehicle in on Edgeware Ln. at Springwater Rd.; however in the process the suspect vehicle reversed direction and side swiped one of the police vehicles. Police continued following and at 7:30am successfully boxed the vehicle in and stopped it at Ron McNeil Ln. and Imperial Rd., Malahide Township. No police vehicles were damaged at this time.

During the arrest the lone female driver resisted arrest and in the process assaulted one officer. The officer was not injured.

No one was injured as a result of the incident.

The 23 year old Malahide woman is currently being held in custody pending a show cause bail hearing to be held on Friday December 6, 2013.

Release of the woman’s name is pending charges being brought before the courts.
