FLIGHT FROM POLICE LEADS TO LARGE TOBACCO SEIZURE

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON.) – Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Haldimand County detachment has charged a 40 year old male with Flight from Police and several Tobacco Tax Act charges at a 5th Line, Haldimand County, ON address.

On Tuesday December 10th, 2013 at approximately 12:12 pm a black 2014 Ford pickup truck was travelling southbound on Hwy #6 south of Caledonia, Haldimand County when an officer attempted to stop the vehicle for a driving infraction. The vehicle turned onto the 5th Line at which time the officer activated his cruiser’s emergency equipment to stop the suspect vehicle. The vehicle then sped away failing to stop for police. After a travelling for a short distance the suspect vehicle eventually stopped and the driver was arrested.

As a result of the ensuing Police investigation a large quantity of unmarked cigars and cigarettes were located and seized.

Charged with Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer and Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes, Possession of Untaxed Cigars for the Purpose of Resale, and Possession of Untaxed Cigars is 40 year old Derek FLEISHER of Kanhnawake, Quebec. He is to appear in Provincial Court, Cayuga, ON at a later date.
