SIX ARRESTED IN THEFT INVESTIGATION

(Prince Edward County, ON)—On December 11, 2013 officers with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Prince Edward County detachment Crime Unit made several arrests in connection with dozens of thefts from motor vehicles. The thefts from motor vehicles date back to early October 2013 in the town of Picton.

An 18-year old male Jacob DUNNETT, a 24-year old male Cory FERGUSON, a 18-year old male Jamie GADDES,19-year old male Zachary TERPSTRA and a 15-year old male, all of Prince Edward County are charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused parties were released on a promise to appear and undertaking with court dates in January 2014 in Picton.

An 18-year old male from Picton, was also arrested and held in custody, charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code and Failing to Comply with Disposition contrary to Section 137 of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The name of the accused is not being released because he was 17-years old at the time of the offence. A bail hearing is scheduled today in the Ontario Court of Justice, Belleville.

Police have recovered some stolen property. Anyone with information regarding these thefts is asked to contact Prince Edward County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

This police investigation revealed that in each of these occurrences, the victim’s motor vehicle was unlocked. The OPP is encouraging people to lock their vehicles and ensure that all valuables are secured and out of sight.
