(LONDON, ON) – A British Columbia driver is facing numerous charges after entering a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) exercise while in possession of drugs. On Saturday December 21, 2013 at approximately 10:29 a.m. members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region Highway Enforcement Team (WR-HET) were conducting a RIDE event on the Highway 401 eastbound on-ramp from Wellington Road in the City of London. An officer was checking on the sobriety of a driver at the RIDE when it was discovered the driver was in possession of marijuana.
The male driver was arrested and as a result of an investigation, police have charged the driver, Leigh NEWMAN, age 30 of Surrey, British Columbia with the following:
1 count of possession of a schedule 2 substance – cannabis marijuana, under 30 grams
1 count of possession of a schedule 1 substance – ecstacy
1 count of possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
3 counts of fail to comply with undertaking
The accused was remanded into police custody and is scheduled to appear in a London Court December 23, 2013 to speak to the charges.
