(Lansdowne,ON.) – On the 1st of January 2014 Ontario Provincial Police in Leeds and 1000 Islands were conducting a traffic stop when the police vehicle was struck by a passing motorist.
At around 5:45 p.m. a member of the East Region Highway Enforcement Team was conducting a traffic stop in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Gananoque.
The officer had stopped the vehicle and was inside his police cruiser when a passing motorist struck the rear drivers side of the car, damaging the vehicle..
The officer received minor injuries from the incident.
The driver, Elia ZUREIK, 74 years old of Kingston, ON, has been charged with Fail to move into another lane for emergency vehicle and Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
The O.P.P. would like to remind the public to drive safely and move over for emergency vehicles.
