(IGNACE, ON) – Members of the Ignace Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), assisted by the Northwest Region Highway Safety Division are currently investigating a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Hwy 17 approximately 40 km west of Ignace on January 9, 2014 at approximately 7:20am CST.
Investigation has determined that there were two passenger motor vehicles involved in the collision. A westbound van with a single occupant collided with an eastbound pickup truck carrying two occupants. The driver of the van was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and passenger of the pickup were transported to medical attention with non-life threatening injuries.
The victim has been identified as 57-year-old Danny HENDERSON of Atikokan, Ontario.
The highway remains closed while the collision is being investigated. It will be opened to one lane as soon as possible.
