(MAPLETON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On January 10, 2014 at approximately 6:16 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious motor vehicle collision located on Wellington County Road 8 near Wellington County Road 12, Mapleton Township.
A 2002 Chevrolet driven by Clara Showalter age 69 of Mapleton Township was traveling westbound on Wellington County Road 8, and attempted to turn into a private driveway. An east bound 2007 Chevrolet, driven by Reuban Wiersma age 19 of Mapleton Township, collided with Showalter’s vehicle.
West Region OPP Traffic Collision Investigators (TCI) attended the scene to assist with the investigation.
Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Mapleton Fire Rescue attended the scene. Showalter was transported to a local hospital by ambulance and was later transported to a Hamilton Hospital for further treatment where she succumbed to her injuries.
