OPP CHARGE IMPAIRED DRIVER IN CONSTRUCTION ZONE

(Ottawa, ON) -The Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has charged a driver of a motor vehicle after a vehicle entered a construction zone on Highway 417 westbound near Belfast Street.

On February 4, 2014, at approximately 2:55 am, a car travelling westbound on Highway 417 was approaching two OPP cruisers which were in the process of temporarily closing the highway due to construction. The suspect vehicle approached the cruisers and struck one of the cruisers when trying to drive between them. The officer sped up and stopped the suspect vehicle before it reached the workers.

The investigation revealed that the driver had been drinking.

The female driver, 24 year old Alyssa SINCLAIR-HALL of Ottawa, was charged with impaired driving, operating a motor vehicle while over 80 mgs of alcohol and dangerous driving and is scheduled to appear in Ottawa court on March 6, 2014. She is also charged with several Highway Traffic Act offences.

Police would like to remind drivers about the reduced speed limits and temporary road closures in the construction zones on the highway and that construction workers can be present at all hours of the day.
