SPEEDING LEADS TO ARREST OF IMPAIRED DRIVER

(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On Saturday, February 8, 2014 at approximately 5:27 p.m. a member of the Ontario Provincial Police – Highway Safety Division Mount Forest Traffic Management Unit stopped a vehicle on Hwy. 6 near McFarlane Drive in the Township of Southgate for speeding. The vehicle, a 2005 Honda minivan, was travelling at a speed of 139 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone.

The driver of the vehicle was found to have been drinking alcohol. An open case of beer was located on the seat directly behind the driver’s seat. After failing a roadside breath test, the driver was arrested and taken to the North Wellington OPP Detachment for further breath tests.

Tony Dean CLEMENTS, age 50, of Ayton, Ontario, was charged with impaired – over 80 milligrams under the Criminal Code as well as, race a motor vehicle, fail to surrender licence under the Highway Traffic Act, and driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available under the Liquor Licence Act.

He is to appear in court in Owen Sound on Thursday, March 6, 2014.
