(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment has received a complaint from a Norfolk County resident concerning a telephone scam circulating in Norfolk County, Ontario.
On Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at approximately 5:20 p.m., the Norfolk County OPP was contacted by a concerned resident regarding a phone call that was received at their residence. The unknown caller indicated that they were collecting funds on behalf of the visually impaired.
The caller was informed by the resident that they would like all of the information forwarded to them so that they could make an informed decision on supporting the organization before providing any further information.
The caller than began to threaten and use profane language at which time the resident immediately hung up the phone.
Modern, tech savvy, scammers have personal information about before they ever try to contact you. It is imperative to verify any unsolicited contact before you respond and provide any information. Keep your guard up when you receive a surprise call from anyone.
