(RED LAKE, ON) – At approximately 8:47pm CST February 8, 2014 Red Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched for the second time that evening to a noise complaint at a residence in Red Lake, Ontario.
Upon arrival, officers were refused entry by the female inside the residence who advised the officers that she had consumed an unknown quantity of medication. Concerned for her safety, the officers breached the door of the residence. An altercation between the female and the police took place and a firearm was discharged by police.
The female was transported to hospital and treated for an injury. Two OPP officers were also transported to hospital and released.
As a result of this incident the OPP has notified the Province’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) who has invoked its mandate.
As a result of the parallel investigation into this incident by the OPP under the direction of Acting Detective Inspector Randy Heida of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, Alexis Mandy YASINOWSKI, a 23-year-old female from Red Lake was arrested on February 13, 2014 and has been charged with:
2 counts of Assault Peace Officer with Weapon,
1 count of Assault Peace Officer,
2 counts of Carry a Weapon Purpose Dangerous, and
1 count Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora on February 14, 2014.
