TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO MULTIPLE CHARGES

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – A traffic stop recently conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has resulted in numerous charges being laid.

On March 6, 2014 an OPP officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Kawartha Lakes Road 36 and subsequently stopped the vehicle which was towing a utility trailer. The investigation revealed that the licence plate was not registered to the trailer and that the trailer did not have proper brake lights.

As a result of the investigation Roger ROADHOUSE, 49 years of age, of Lindsay, was charged with speeding, improper plates and having no brake lights, all contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. Mr. ROADHOUSE was also charged with failing to produce an insurance slip, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

During the initial contact with the driver, the officer observed four cartons of unmarked cigarettes in the vehicle which led to Mr. ROADHOUSE being further charged with the offence of possession of unmarked cigarettes, contrary to the Tobacco Tax Act. The cigarettes were seized and the accused will appear in court, in Lindsay, on June 10, 2014.
