(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On March 13, 2014, just after 5:30 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a collision involving a tractor trailer and a tow truck on Highway 401 westbound near Charing Cross Road.
The collision occurred when a red Freightliner tractor trailer was travelling westbound and struck a white Ford tow truck which was stopped on the north shoulder of the highway assisting in the removal of abandoned vehicles as a result of the recent snow storm. The tow truck was unoccupied at the time of the collision.
As a result of the subsequent OPP traffic investigation, the male driver, 31 year old Gurpreet BAINS, from Windsor, ON, was charged with the following:
Careless Driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
Fail To Slow Down and Proceed With Caution for Emergency Vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
Draw Trailer, No Plate, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
No injuries were reported.
Motorists are reminded to drive with caution, slow down and move over when approaching emergency service vehicles.
