(THE BLUE MOUNTAINS, ONTARIO) Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) closed down a portion of Grey Road 2 over the weekend in regards to a fatal motor vehicle collision investigation.
On the 15th of March 2014 at approximately 2:30pm the OPP received a report of a person who had been struck by a motor vehicle on Grey Road 2 near the 18th Sideroad in The Blue Mountains. OPP along with paramedics and firefighters from Grey County attended the scene. OPP Technical Collision Investigators also attended where the road was closed until approximately 9:00pm.
Investigation found that the female victim and her husband had stopped to render assistance to another motorist who had gone off the roadway. It was during this time that an oncoming SUV was attempting to slow down while approaching the scene, began sliding on the road and struck the victim.
The female victim was subsequently transported to an area hospital via ambulance however died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. Deceased is 58 year-old Janet VANDERBEEK of Kitchener.
OPP is continuing its investigation in this incident.
