(HUNTSVILLE, ON) Throughout the early morning hours of March 24, 2014 Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) communications centre had received numerous calls using 9-1-1 from a resident in Hekkla located just outside of the town of Huntsville.
Christina TAMM (53yrs) of Hekkla had been calling the communications centre using 911 and did not have an emergency that would constitute the usage of the emergency number. She was eventually arrested and has since been charged with Public Mischief under the Criminal Code of Canada. She will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Huntsville on April 9, 2014 to answer to her charges.
A reminder that 9-1-1 is used to stop a crime, report a fire, save a life or in any situation where fire, police or ambulance assistance is required immediately. The misuse of 9-1-1 could prevent someone from getting the assistance that legitimately needs it.
