(FORT FRANCES, ON) – On March 20, 2014, at approximately 11:16 pm, officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a Fort Frances commercial property in response to someone attempting to steal a pickup truck from a locked compound.
When officers arrived, they were directed to the rear of the compound where they observed the pickup truck running with its lights on and a male seated in the driver’s seat with all of the doors locked. The male was directed to put the vehicle in park and unlock the doors but had a difficult time complying with the instruction due to his level of intoxication.
Once officers were in a position to remove the driver from the vehicle, the driver became uncooperative and physically resistant with police. He was placed under arrest and taken into police custody.
As a result of police investigation, Dustin MELROSE, age 24 of Fort Frances, ON was charged with the following criminal offences:
– Theft of a Motor Vehicle
– Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle
– Resist Arrest of a Peace Officer
He was later released from police custody and ordered to appear in Fort Frances Court on April 28, 2014.
