(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – A local male is now in custody after attempting to evade an officer from the Ontario Provincial Police’s (OPP) Highway Safety Division.
On April 9, 2014 at approximately 6:30 a.m. an OPP officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and subsequently attempted to stop the vehicle. The officer initiated a suspect apprehension pursuit (SAP) which was terminated without the vehicle being stopped.
A short time later the officer, who was on the shoulder of the roadway, was advised by a motorist that a van was in the ditch on Highway 7, West of Oakwood. On arrival the officer discovered that the vehicle which had fled was the one currently in the ditch. Initial investigation indicated that the vehicle had been stolen from the Lindsay area.
The driver, who was the lone occupant, was transported via ambulance to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was released a short time later.
Robert CLEMENTS, 27 years of age, of Lindsay is currently in police custody. The investigation is ongoing and details will be provided as they become available.
The OPP would like to speak to the motorist who advised the officer of the collision and request that he contact the detachment at 705-324-6741.
