STUNT DRIVER JUST ONE OF MANY SPEEDERS ON HIGHWAY 402

(STRATHROY-CARADOC TWP, ON) – A female driver lost her licence for seven days and the vehicle she was driving was impounded for driving too fast. This was just one of many vehicles stopped for driving too fast on Highway 402 on April 11, 2014.

On April 11, 2014 at approximately 10:43 a.m. members of the Middlesex County OPP were on Highway 402 at Glendon Drive in Strathroy-Caradoc Township conducting a speed enforcement exercise when a vehicle was observed approaching their location at a very high rate of speed. The vehicle was measured to be travelling in excess of 50 km/h over the 100 km/h posted speed limit.

The vehicle was stopped and as a result of an investigation, police charged the driver, Lisa CHYNOWETH, age 39 of Mississauga, ON under the stunt driving legislation. The driver’s licence was seized and her vehicle was impounded. The accused was released by way of a Part III Summons and is scheduled to appear in a London Court on May 26, 2014 to speak to the charge.

Middlesex County charged a total of 30 drivers that day all of which were vehicles travelling in excess of 125 km/h. “It never ceases to amaze me that drivers continue to treat each other with such disregard by travelling at these excessive speeds. It is a recipe for disaster and someone is going to get seriously injured or even killed. We need drivers to slow down and we will continue to go out there to educate drivers through visibility and enforcement to ensure they get that message.” advises Middlesex OPP Inspector Tony Cristilli.

Drivers who engage in high risk driving behavior put everyone at risk. Speeding makes it more difficult for drivers to react to changes, stop suddenly and control a vehicle. In the case of a collision, the higher the speed the more severe the collision and the more likely that serious injuries or death will occur.
