TWO CHARGED WITH DRUG OFFENCES ON TRAFFIC STOP

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – On Wednesday April 23, 2014, shortly after 1:00pm members of the Ontario Provincial Police Quinte West Detachment conducted a traffic stop on Wallbridge-Loyalist Rd. in the City of Quinte West. The vehicle was stopped using the Automatic Licence Plate Recognition system. During the traffic stop police detected a strong odour of marihuana from within the vehicle. Further investigation revealed a quantity of marijuana was in the vehicle, a large sum of cash, drug paraphernalia, and a prohibited weapon. The two occupants in the vehicle, 27 year old Matthew BRANT and 28 year old Raymond MARACLE both of Tyeninaga were arrested at the scene of the traffic stop.

BRANT and MARACLE were charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, Unauthorized Possession of Weapons, and Possession of Weapons for Dangerous Purpose. BRANT was further charged with Driving while under Suspension, and Failing to Surrender a Suspended Licence.

The charged persons were released from police custody each on a Promise to Appear with OIC Undertaking and given a May 29th, 2014 court date.
