(BRIGHTON, ON) Two Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were involved in a collision on Thursday April 17, 2014 on County Road 30 in the Municipality of Brighton.
Two officers were responding to an emergency call for service on Highway 401 just before 3:00 pm on April 17. They were travelling northbound on County Road 30 in two separate black and white OPP marked police vehicles at the double lane area south the 401 with the cruiser emergency equipment activated. A south bound vehicle observed the Police approaching and slowed down to allow them to pass, while a second vehicle, a white 2006 Chevrolet van pulled out from behind it into the path of the oncoming first northbound cruiser.
Both officers turned to their right to avoid a collision with the van but made contact with each other, causing one cruiser into the eastside cable guard rail and posts. Both officers were not injured but significant damage was sustained to one cruiser.
OPP have completed this investigation.
Kyle Mitchell DAVIDSON, age 23 from Cobourg, Ontario has been issued a Provincial Offence Notice for fail to stop on right for emergency vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act.
OPP would like to remind motorists that they must come to a complete stop in both directions for emergency vehicles with lights and /or sirens activated to allow them to pass safely.
