Roadway Construction

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) wants motorist to be extra cautious and slow down when travelling through roadway construction zones. The arrival of summer means family vacations and roads under construction.

Ordinary drivers react to changing road conditions while good drivers anticipate hazards and adjust their driving accordingly. When you see the road service equipment or road work signs, slow down and watch the vehicle ahead of you, not the work being done beside you. Expect the vehicle ahead to stop suddenly and give them ample room.

Watch for the designated safety person that directs the flow of traffic. They are there to protect both the construction workers and you. Recognize that the road service equipment is larger and heavier than your vehicle; so it’s in your best interest to cooperate.

Speeding fines are more expensive for drivers stopped in construction areas when workers are present and criminal charges may apply if a worker’s safety is endangered by your driving. Remember that they are working to make the roads better and they have families too!

Slow down, be patient and you will get safely to your destination. If you become involved in a crash, you may not get there at all.
