(MIDDLESEX COUNTY, ON) – A male driver and female passenger are facing charges after their vehicle fled from police in the City of London and was eventually stopped on Highway 403 by Middle Townline Road in Brant County.
On June 29, 2014 at approximately 12:53 a.m. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region Highway Enforcement Team (HET) officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle in a south London hotel parking lot. As police were interacting with the male driver, he jumped into his vehicle and sped away. The vehicle continued to Highway 401 and failed to stop for police. Police continued to follow the suspect vehicle eastbound onto Highway 403 where a tire deflation device was successfully deployed. The driver fled on foot and the passenger was arrested at the scene. The area was contained with the assistance of Brant County OPP, Oxford County OPP, Middlesex County OPP and the OPP West Region HET while members of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and OPP West Region Canine tracked and eventually arrested the suspect driver. A quantity of suspected marijuana was discovered at the scene.
As a result of the investigation police have charged the male driver, Shadrach WILLIAMS, age 26 of Toronto, ON with the following:
Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Under 3kg
Possession of a Schedule II Substance, Cannabis Marihuana – Under 30 grams
Fail to Comply with Recognizance – two counts
The driver has been remanded into custody.
The female passenger, Stephanie JACKSON, age 19 of Barrie, ON has been charged with the following:
Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Under 3kg
Possession of a Schedule II Substance, Cannabis Marihuana – Under 30 grams
The passenger was released by way of an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in a London Court at a later date to speak to the charges.
